Requirements
------------

mplayer 0.90rc1+
mencoder with libavcodec (required for saving only)
ImageMagick (for mogrify)
perl 5+
gtk+ 2.x
libjpeg62
gdk-pixbuf-loaders

sox (recommended)
xmms (optional)

Installation (Binary version)
----------------------------
First of all, unpack the distribution, with:

bzip2 -d LiVES-0.4.5-bin.tar.bz2
tar xvf LiVES-0.4.5-bin.tar

then:

cd LiVES-0.4.5

Next, make sure that smogrify and lives are in your path, e.g:

cp smogrify /usr/local/bin
chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/smogrify
cp LiVES-0.4.5/lives-exe /usr/local/bin
chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/lives-exe

(you may need to be root to do that)

and then run lives-exe:

lives-exe

For best results start with a SMALL ( <50MB ) video file.

Troubleshooting
---------------
Make sure there is plenty of space available in the temporary directory
(default is /tmp/livestmp).

You can change this from Tools|Preferences|Directory.

If effects are not working properly, try changing the value of mog_auto_bak in
~/.lives (true|false)

Installing from source
----------------------

bzip2 -d LiVES-0.4.5-src.tar.bz2
tar xvf LiVES-0.4.5-src.tar

cd LiVES-0.4.5
./configure && make

become root if necessary, then:

cp ./src/lives-exe /usr/local/bin
chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/lives-exe

copy smogrify to your path,

e.g.

cp smogrify /usr/local/bin
chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/smogrify

then:

lives-exe

Notes
-----
Currently the save file output is limited to two formats, mjpeg and mpeg1. Unfortunately, mencoder seems to only save mpeg1 at a fixed fps.

More output formats will be included in the near future.

The 'load audio' function supports .wav, .mp3 (mpg123 required) and .ogg (ogg123 required).

If you have cdda2wav (part of the cdrecord package) you will be able to load audio off CD.
